Estell Tunnell

Estell Eugene Tunnell, age 73, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Estell was born on August 30, 1950, in Miami, OK to the late union of Emmitt “Gene” and Lillie (Edwards) Tunnell. He was a 1968 graduate of Baxter Springs High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1970 and returned home in 1974. 








Estell married Theresa Willis on May 21, 1977 in Joplin, MO. Together they were blessed with 46 years before his passing. He worked for Eagle Pitcher for many years before working for BF Goodrich. After BF Goodrich he worked for Con Agra for a number of years before settling at Schrieber Foods and retiring after a 22-year tenure. He was a dedicated Cowboys and Yankees fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and pampa. Although Estell and Theresa did not attend a specific church regularly, they are both people of faith.

Estell was one of the most gentle, caring, and hardworking individuals you could have ever met. His love and loyalty to his family is unwavering. You could always rely on him to be there in your time of need. He never complained about anyone or anything and He had a laugh that was so contagious it would light up any room. His presence was always a warm welcome and he will always be missed.

Estell is survived by his wife Theresa Tunnell and four children; Robert Tunnell, Latisha Chapman and her husband Travis, David Tunnell and his wife Theresa, Sierra White and her husband Chris; all of Joplin. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Renee Rodgers and her husband Ezra, Caitlin Chapman, Zach Tunnell, Blake Chapman, and Parker Tunnell; and two great-grandchildren, Sunday White and Asher Chapman. Estell also leaves behind four siblings, Johnny Tunnell and his wife Karen; of Lee’s Summit, MO. Kathy Sappington of Peoria, OK. Dennis Tunnell and his wife Ruth; of Riverton, KS. Jimmy Tunnell of Riverton, KS.








Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Parker Mortuary Chapel from 6:00 –8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Parker Mortuary Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with pastor Derick Tillman officiating. Interment to follow at Park Cemetery in Carthage, MO with Chris White, Ezra Rodgers, Zach Tunnell, Blake Chapman, Parker Tunnell, and Luis Vargas serving as pallbearers.


Funeral arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
