Eugene Thurman

Mr. Everett Eugene Thurman, 84, of Neosho, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Eugene was born on June 10, 1942, in Anderson, Missouri, the son of the late Floyd Everett and Opal (Lavon) Thurman. He grew up in the Anderson area and lived a life marked by hard work, kindness, and devotion to the people he loved. Those who knew him will remember him as a loving, kind, and adventurous man whose warm presence brought comfort and joy to family and friends alike.

On August 4, 1961, Eugene was united in marriage to Hazel Laughlin, and to this union three sons were born. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage until Hazel’s passing on December 7, 2018. Eugene treasured his family deeply and found great happiness in the life they built together. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, and his greatest pride was the family that surrounded him.

Eugene worked faithfully throughout his life and was known for his strong work ethic. He served as a truck driver and mechanic for Hudson Foods for 15 years and later drove for Walmart for 15 years. He approached his work with dedication and reliability, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him. In addition to his career, Eugene had a gift for carpentry and took pride in being able to build and repair with skill and care.

In his spare time, Eugene enjoyed fishing, gardening, karaoke, and simply spending time outdoors. He especially loved being with his family and friends, and those moments were among the most meaningful in his life. Whether he was sharing stories, working with his hands, or enjoying the peace of the outdoors, Eugene lived with a spirit that was steady, cheerful, and full of heart. He was also a member of Valley View Church in Pineville, Missouri, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life.

Eugene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hazel Thurman; his parents; his son, David Thurman; and his sister, Donna Faye. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his two sons, Tony Thurman and his wife, Rita, of Neosho, and Roger Thurman and his wife, Kathi, of Anderson; four grandchildren, Kyle, Scott, Shelbi, and Dalton; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Norma Ruth Schlessman; and a host of other family members and friends who will cherish his memory forever.

The family would like to thank Phoenix Home Care for the love and support given to Eugene throughout his time in hospice.

Funeral services for Mr. Thurman will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes, with Bill Briscoe officiating. Burial will follow in Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson, Missouri. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. Eugene’s life was one of love, faith, hard work, and devotion to family. He will be remembered for his gentle heart, his steady presence, and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so dearly and in the many memories shared by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
