Tommy Eldridge

Tommy Eldridge, age 78, of Baxter Springs, KS, passed away on September 18, 2026 in Joplin. He had always considered Baxter Springs his home but was born on October 25, 1947, in Joplin to the late Orval and Ruth (Erwin) Eldridge. Tommy lived a life marked by kindness, friendship, faith, and steady devotion to the people and places he loved.

Tommy graduated from Joplin High School in 1965 and later attended classes at Ozark Bible College. He carried the values of hard work, respect, and service throughout his life.

In 1968, Tommy joined the United States Navy and served his country faithfully. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the First Good Conduct Medal, honors that reflected his commitment and dependable character. After returning home, he began working with Leggett & Platt Manufacturing, shortly thereafter he married his loving wife Vicki Coursey on November 7th, 1989. After being united in marriage Tommy and Vicki moved to Colorado for a number of years before returning to the Baxter Springs area where Tommy worked for Autozone all the way up until his retirement.

Tommy was also past commander of the Baxter Springs, KS American Legion Post 206. He valued camaraderie, service, and the opportunity to help friends and community members whenever he could. His Christian faith was an important part of his life, and it guided the way he treated others with compassion and humility.

Outside of work and service, Tommy found joy in the outdoors. He loved to hunt, spend time outside, and fish at Roaring River. He also enjoyed sail boating on open waters and treasured the memories of family trips to Grand Lake each year during his childhood. Tommy also studied Taekwondo for several years reaching respect of 3rd degree blackbelt. These simple pleasures brought him happiness throughout his life and became part of the stories he shared with those around him.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Eldridge of Baxter Springs, KS; his sons, Kevin Coursey and Karmen of Riverton, Kansas, and Allan Coursey and Teresa of Hurley, Missouri; his siblings, Lincoln Eldridge of Joplin, Missouri, and Carolyn Mackey and Keith of Surprise, Arizona; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren who will carry on his memory. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Evelyn Hale and Zelma Keefe.

Tommy will be remembered for his warm spirit, his loyal heart, and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him. His family and friends will hold close the memories of his kindness, his service, and the love he shared so freely. His life was a blessing to many, and his memory will remain a lasting comfort to all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services for Mr. Tommy Eldridge will take place on Tuesday, September 29th at 10 a.m. at the Blendville Christian Church with Keith Mackey officiating. Burial will follow at the Osborne Cemetery located in Joplin with military honors being conducted by American Legion post 206.

The arrangements will be handled under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
