Margaret Jeffcoat

Margaret Ann Jeffcott, 87, Neosho, passed away January 17, 2015, after an extended illness.

 Margaret Ann was born April 9, 1927 in Joplin, Missouri. Margaret Ann Boyd and Truman Jeffcott were married on July 2, 1949 and Truman preceded her in death in 2010. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Boyd. Margaret Ann graduated from SMS in 1949 and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Pittsburg State. She began her teaching career in Webb City and in 1955, was employed by Joplin Junior College as an instructor of girls physical education. She became the first supervisor of elementary PE for the Joplin School District, a position she held for 27 years. She was also instrumental in promoting the Special Olympics program for students. She was a member of the Neosho First Christian Church.

 Margaret is survived by three daughters, Jan Rowell and husband, Charles of Monett; Judy Schneider and husband, Mike of Oronogo and Jill Carter and husband, Robert of Neosho; one son, Sam Jeffcott of Neosho and one sister in law, Joetta Krusekopf of Jasper. To her eight grandchildren, she was known as ‘M’ and they include, Jennifer Taunton, Nick Rowell, Lee Schneider, Amy Schneider, Kelly Roberts, Megan Bultema, James Carter and Jake Jeffcott. In addition, she is survived by seven great grandchildren.

Charles Summers

Charles L. Summers, age 97, of Webb City, Mo. passed away at 9:17 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin following a three month illness. Charles was born May 3, 1917 in Harveyville, Ks. and had lived in Webb City most of his life. He began his career as a Machinist with what is now Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Ks. He later worked over 20 years with Webb City Auto Parts, and then Motor Electric in Joplin prior to his retirement. Charles was a 1936 graduate of Webb City High School. He was an avid fisherman, and active for many years in a bowling league. Charles was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Webb City.

Charles married Virginia Hargis January 30, 1937 in Joplin and she survives. Additional survivors include two daughters, Sandra Ball and husband Donald, Kansas City, Mo., and Debra Hernandez, Parker, Tx., one son, Lance Summers and wife Debra, Kansas City, Mo. a son-in-law, O.J. Moss, Webb City, Mo. 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Summers, and Cynthia Moss.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin with Chaplain Justin Coberly officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City and Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.

Everett Cooper

Everett Eugene Cooper, 95 of Carthage, passed away January 17, 2015 at Seneca House in Seneca, MO. 

He was born August 28, 1919 to Joseph Henry Cooper and Thursa Lyburger Cooper in Milo, MO. He was a longtime Carthage resident. Everett graduated Carthage Senior High. He served in the Air Force for three years where he was an aircraft instruments instructor. He worked for Myers Motor Supply, Four States Supply, Atlas Chemical and the Carthage Post Office before retiring. He loved to Fish, hunt, do lapidary and bead jewelry. 

Everett was united in marriage to Dorothy Lola Cooper on December 16, 1937 in Webb City, MO. She preceded him in death February 24, 2014. Everett is survived by one son Everett Ray Cooper and wife Kathy of Carthage, three grandchildren Brian of Austin, Texas, Paul and wife Jana of Oronogo, MO and David and wife Bethany of Joplin, MO, three great-grandchildren Miranda, Lane and Maleah. Everett is preceded by his wife one sister Bernice T. Cooper, two brothers Joe H. Cooper and Edgar L. Cooper. 

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday January 23, 2015 at Park Cemetery Carthage, Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday January 23, 2015 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Park Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Carthage in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.ulmerfh.com.

Leroy Carter

Leroy W. Carter age 93 of Galena, Ks formerly of Joplin passed away Monday January 19, 2014 at the Freeman Health Center. He was born on March 21, 1921 in Joplin, MO. He was a veteran serving his country with the United States Army. He married Bessie Nichols she preceded her in death. Leroy was employed with the City of Joplin. He is survived by a daughter Nancy Richey of Arizona City, AZ

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday January 19, 2015 at the Mt Hope Cemetery Webb City.

Susan Nance

Susan Kay Nance, age 61 of Joplin passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas following an extended illness.

Susan was born to Jack Allgood and the late Elizabeth Lester Allgood on November 4, 1953 in Joplin, MO where she has lived all her life. Susan was a homemaker.

She married Keith Nance in 1981 in Joplin, he survives of the home.

Additional survivors include her father, Jack Allgood; four children; two sisters; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

There are no family services planned at this time.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.

Deidre Mooney

Deidre S. Mooney, age 67, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away late Saturday evening, January 17, 2015 at Medicalodge in Frontenac where she had been a resident for two days.

Deidre was born October 4, 1947 at her family home near Arcadia, Kansas to Hank and Viola (Harris) Foulk. She was part of the last graduating class of Arcadia High School in 1965 and was a member of Arcadia Christian Church. On April 8, 1966, at Arcadia, Deidre married Robert Mooney. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Deidre had worked as a department manager for Walmart in Nevada, Missouri and a secretary for Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott, Kansas. She was then a ward clerk for Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott until retiring in 1990. Deidre was a talented seamstress, a great cook, and enjoyed playing Bingo. She had been a member of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 49 years, Robert, of the home; two sons, David (Mary) Mooney of Carl Junction, Missouri and Jason Mooney of Pittsburg; her mother-in-law, Lois Mooney of Lamar; a brother, Jim (Helen) Foulk of Bronaugh, Missouri; sister-in-law, Marianne (Kyle) Page of Liberal, Missouri; four grandchildren, Eddie Mooney, Andrew (Natasha) Mooney, Zachary (Kendall) Mooney, and Shelby Mooney; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Barbara Morris; and her father-in-law, Neil Mooney.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22nd at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton County Senior Center in care of the funeral home.

John Lund Jr.

John Lund, 75, Alba, MO, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin. Joseph John Lund, Jr. was born April 2, 1939 in Olathe, KS, a son of the late Joseph Lund and Dorothy Trammell Lund. John was a self-employed cement finisher and served in the U. S. Army during peacetime operations. He married Sharon Sutterby on November 27, 1971; she survives. Mr. Lund was a member of the Purcell Baptist Church and the Missouri Governors Mounted Guard for 20 years.

Additional survivors include a daughter; Christina Thornton, Wichita, KS; two sons, Lonnie Lund, wife Ryan, Carthage and John Bryan Chaney, Springhill, KS; four sisters, Mary Hon, Olathe, KS, Sandy (Ray) Jennings, Port Orchard, WA, Viola Patterson, Gardner, KS and Sherry Miller, Olathe, KS; four brothers, Bob (Jeri) Lund, Charles (Penny) Lund, both of Warrensburg, MO, Orville (Nancy)LeDoux, Olathe, KS and Travis LeDoux; six grandchildren, Mikayla, Lucas and Rylee Lund, Jacob, Gracie, Tytus Thornton. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tommy Renfro.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Monday, January 19 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 20 at the Purcell Baptist Church, Purcell, MO. Interment will be in the Friends Cemetery, Purcell. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Purcell Baptist Church Building Fund or the Gideon’s International in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W.
