Laura Brown

Laura Mae Brown, age 97, lifelong resident of Joplin, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 after a sudden illness.

Laura was born September 26, 1920 in Joplin, daughter of the late Roy Anderson and Lillie Jones Anderson. She attended Joplin Schools, and married Charles L. Brown on January 6, 1940 in Joplin. She was a stay at home mom taking care of her family. She loved to fish, and took several trips to Canada. She was known to out fish anyone with her, even the professional guides on a few of her trips. She enjoyed playing cards with her family, and was still enjoying six handed bridge games with her family and friends.

Laura could be described as a survivor. She had health problems as a child, and later dealt with cancer, she even had parts of her face reconstructed, and kept going. She survived the tornado of 2011, and was still active at the age of 97.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. "Jack" Brown, a son, Jack L. Brown; a grandson, Jackie L. Burwick, Jr.; and a sister, Thelma Brown.

Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Burwick and husband Jack of Jasper, Missouri; grandchildren, Gretchen Boykin, Scotty Brown, Michele Hicks and husband Rick; great-grandchildren, Christopher Brown, Matthew Boykin, Ashley Tucker, Michael Burwick, Vincent Burwick, Jamie Nepper, Adam Burwick, and Nathan Burwick; great-great-grandchild, Bella Burwick, Harper Brown and Ronnie Brown.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Friends are invited to come and share stories, and visit with family.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Inurnment of her ashes will be private in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.
