Betty Jane Carnes, age 90, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Spring River Christian Village where she had been living for the last few years.
Betty was born June 14, 1923 in Stella, Missouri, daughter of the late Noble Jessee and Maude Carter Jessee. She graduated from Stella High School, and spent most of her life taking care of her family being a much loved wife, mother, and grandmother. Her smile lit up the room and her laughter was intoxicating. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She also enjoyed being a delivery driver for the florist at Consumer's Grocery Store in Joplin and volunteered at American Rehabilitation Ministries. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Joplin.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Carnes who died on May 6, 1983, and an infant son, Robert Carnes, a daughter, Robin Carnes Hoagland; and three brothers, Vincel, Gene, and Max Jessee.
Survivors include her son, Kendall Carnes and wife Gayle of Joplin; a daughter, Cindy Layne and husband Randy of Webb City; grandchildren, Matt Hoagland, Maegan Spencer and husband Jess, Sara Shelton and husband Steve, Ashley Cook and husband Dave, Macy Layne, and a step-granddaughter, Robin Layne Cronin; great-grandchildren, Kendall Spencer, Brynn Cook, Kinlee Cook, Savannah Hoagland , Aliyah Hoagland and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and life -long friends whom she loved immeasurably.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Interment of her ashes will occur at a later date in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Neosho next to her beloved husband.
