Syble Stewart, age 94, of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday May 28, 2014, at her home.
Syble was born on November 02, 1919 in Galena, Mo., the daughter of the late Eli A. and Clara Mae (Ralston) Gunn. She has been a resident of Joplin for the past twelve years, moving from Ozark, Mo. Prior to that she lived in Modesto, Ca. for twenty-five years, where she worked as a switchboard operator for the Modesto Irrigation District. She married Billy Stewart in February of 1940. He was a pastor and Syble devoted much of her life working with him in the ministry and teaching numerous Sunday school classes. She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church and she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She enjoyed word search puzzles.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Stewart and wife, Elizabeth, Webb City, Mo., and Lee Stewart and his wife Regina, Modesto, Ca.; one brother Walter T. Gunn and wife Rebecca, Springfield, Mo., six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren .She was preceded in death by her husband Billy D. Stewart and one brother, Leonard Gunn.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Spokane Cemetery in Spokane, Mo. Bill Rice will officiate. Friends may sign the register during regular visiting hours at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
