Dwain Brixey

Dwain G. Brixey, age 85 of Joplin, Mo., passed away May 24, 2014 at Freeman Health System following a short illness.

 He was born August 21, 1928 in Joplin, and was the son of David and Elisabeth Elliott Brixey. He attended Joplin Schools and served in the United States Marines from 1946 to 1947 and in the Navy Reserves in Korea from 1950 to 1951. He served on the Cruiser Juneau, CLAA 119, in the Sea of Japan. Dwain married Lois Mae “Dollie” Goswick on August 5, 1953. She preceded him in death on January 9, 1988. Dwain worked at Farmers Chemical Company in Joplin, Mo for 23 years and for Economic Security Company for 13 years retiring in 1992. He was a 45 year member of the Racine Baptist Church in Racine and volunteered in the Genealogy Room at the Joplin Public Library for a number of years. He was a long time member of Post 534 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and belonged to the John C. Cox Cemetery Project for 10 years.

 Dwain is survived by 1 brother Perry Brixey of Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Douglas Dwain, 1 brother Melvin Brixey, 1 sister, Betty Kinney, and long time, friend Wanda Beets.

 Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Osborne Cemetery, Joplin, Mo. 

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
