Ryan Lewis Smith, age 41, Joplin, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
Ryan was born November 18, 1972 in Goodland, Kansas, and lived much of his life in the Joplin area. He had also lived in Kansas and Salt Lake City, UT. A 1991 graduate of Webb City High School, he received an Associate Degree from MSSU and was pursuing his Bachelor Degree. Ryan was a very talented vocalist performing with several bands, including his own band, V.D. He also performed as a comedian. Ryan was currently employed with Walgreen’s. He grew up as a Christian.
Survivors include his mother, Janet Smyth of the home; father, Robert L. Smith of Hyde Park, MA; brothers, Commander Robert L. Smith, Jr. and wife Teri, US Coast Guard, stationed in Washington, D.C., Seth C. Barstow and wife Shannon of Joplin; half- siblings, Daniel Smith, Aimee Smith and James Smith all of Hyde Park; nieces and nephews, Valeria Smith, Robert L. Smith, III, Kelly McPherson, Neil Barstow, and Adwen Barstow; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Memorial Service arrangements are pending.
