John L. Brown age 68 passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from injuries sustained in the Quapaw, Oklahoma tornado.
He was born on June 1, 1945 in Webb City, Missouri to Dewey R. Brown and Lavone Ferguson Brown. John was a United States Army Veteran, a founding member and deacon at the Sheep Shed in Neosho, Missouri, an eagle scout and a member of the American Legion in Baxter Springs. He was a member of the Pre 1840’s Mountain Men Clubs, he loved to fish and hunt and do anything that had to do with being outdoors.
John married Janet Wetherell Brown on November 16, 1967 in Joplin, Missouri and she survives at the home. He is also survived by his son, David Eric Brown and wife Wendy of Haven, Kansas; daughters, Shannon Tarvin and husband Russell of Asbury, Dawn Simpson and husband Danny of Asbury; brother, Bill Brown and wife Zelda Rowan of Carl Junction; 8 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Robert D. Brown.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Carl Junction with Dr. Mack Evans and Pastor Jock Evans officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be at Black Jack Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions to the Sheep Shed Church in his memory in care of the funeral home.
