Fern Bernice (Pyle) Wright, age 93 years, residing at MedicaLodges of Neosho, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 where she had been a resident since 2009.
She was born on June 22, 1920 to Frank R. and Neata May (Gulick) Pyle in Lawrence County, Missouri. Fern was the first of twelve children born of this union.
Fern married J.K.Vernon Wright, Sr. on July 8, 1939 in Jasper County, Missouri. She was a homemaker as well as a partner in ministry with him in many area United Methodist Churches. She also worked for several retail outlets, including Belk-Simpson and Montgomery Ward, and with J.K. in his automotive repair shop. Fern was an accomplished seamstress, designing clothing for her family and friends; if she could envision it, she could accomplish it. She enjoyed preparing large elaborate dinners for her family. Her Grandchildren were one of her greatest joys in life, and especially the annual trips to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.K. in 2001; her parents; and five brothers, Earl, Harley, Paul, Ancil, and Howard; one sister, Margaret Uber; and one Grandson, Mike Boyer.
Survivors include three children: Verna (Dean) Salchow of Webb City, MO; Charlotte Coates of Parsons, KS; and JK, Jr (Mary Jo) Wright of Joplin, MO; five sisters, Lorene (Bill) Glidewell; Eula (Jackie) Thomas; Ruth (George) Platt; Erma Thomas; and Loretta (Lynn) Thomas; sisters-in-law, Francis Pyle; Lela Pyle; Tana Pyle; eight grandchildren, Greg (Michele) Salchow; Doug (Lynn) Wright; Charlyn (Greg) Kester; Shantel Satterlee; Troy (Lori) Salchow; Sharell (Mitch) Eddy; Len (Vanessa) Coates; and Jacque Boyer; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Parker Mortuary of Joplin, MO with the Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Burial will be held immediately following at Osborne Cemetery in Joplin, MO. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rev. J.K. Wright Scholarship Fund at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri, or in the care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
