Mary Jo Barnett-Pattison

Mrs. Mary Jo Barnett-Pattison, 87, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Freeman Hospital West, after complications from a recent fall.

Mary Jo entered this life on March 2, 1927, in Joplin, Missouri, one of three daughters born to the late Alfred R. and Laura M. (Lawler) Haase. She was a graduate of Joplin High School, Joplin Junior College and St. Mary’s College in Xavier, Kansas. On October 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Dr. Charles Barnett and to this union one daughter was born. She was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. Charles passed away on their thirty-third anniversary in 1980. Later in October of 1985, she married Carroll “Pat” Pattison and together they shared twenty-two years before his passing in 2007. She attended both St. Mary’s and St. Peter’s Catholic Churches. Mary Jo was community minded with involvement in the P.E.O Sisterhood, YWCA, Joplin Humane Society, Joplin Historical Society and the Joplin Women’s Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, dancing, antiquing and was also a certified antique appraiser.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and one sister, Emma Frances Park.

Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Susan Daniels, of Springfield, Missouri, and fiancé, Tom Grant; a grandson, Bryan Daniels also of Springfield; a sister, Celia Ritter and husband, Dr. Gordon Ritter, of Prescott, Arizona; two nephews; Garth Ritter of Prescott and Jeff Park of Kansas City; as well as a host of other family and many friends.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m., May 9, 2014, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father J. Friedel officiating. Private family burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City.  In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Joplin Humane Society and contributions may be left at the mortuary.
