Meg Johnson

Margaret ( Meg) W. Johnson, 89, of Springfield died Monday, May 19, 2014 at Ozark Riverview Manor in Ozark, Mo. 

She was born August 7, 1924 in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Olive Welch. Her twin sister, Lola Welch Manley, was her lifelong best friend. Meg graduated from Chanute High School in Chanute, Kansas where she met her husband of 55 years, Wayne D. Johnson. Meg worked part-time with Wayne in his architectural firm and also in real estate in Springfield. She enjoyed many years as an office manager at the Housing Authority in Joplin. Meg and Wayne traveled extensively, and she enjoyed many social activities, groups and friendships including her SMMA art group, a couple’s bridge club and they were one of the founding couples of Twin Oaks Country Club.

 Survivors include three sons, Stan and wife Debbie of Springfield, Rick and wife CJ of Lebanon, and Brian and wife Janice of Springfield; one daughter, Kim Keltner and husband Kurt of Rogersville. Eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her sister, Lola Manley of Springfield and Lola’s children and grandchildren whom she enjoyed and visited often. Meg was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, her parents and one brother.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. A remembrance of Meg’s life will be celebrated at the home of Kurt and Kim Keltner, Rogersville, Mo on Sunday, June 1 from 1-5 P.M. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

 Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
