Elnora B. Huff Autry, age 86 of Joplin, passed away at 10:31 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Webb City Health & Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born December 1, 1927 in Mascot, TN, she was the daughter of the late Edwin J. Huff and Bertha Lorena Green Huff and had lived in Joplin since 1948, moving from Bessemer, AL. A 1947 graduate of Carter High School in Knoxville, she also graduated from Knoxville Business College. Elnora was a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was a Baptist and participated in Wednesday Study Club.
On March 9, 1951 she married Walter Hobson (Hop) Autry in Clear Springs, TN. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2008. A son, Dr. Walter Wesley Autry also preceded her on February 1, 2014 as well as a brother, Jack Kenneth Huff.
Survivors include two sons, Ed Autry and wife Marcia of Joplin, Whit Autry of Columbia, MO; two daughters, Mary Margaret Smolik and husband Joe, Rebecca Jane Autry, all of Columbia; two sisters, Evelyn Fawver and JoAnn Roth, both of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Greg and T.J. Autry, both of Joplin, Kendall Autry of California, Kellen Autry of Florida, Preston Autry of Joplin, Austin Lewis of Evansville, IN; one great-grandson, Harrison Lewis. The family expresses their gratitude to her grandson, Greg, who served compassionately as Elnora’s caregiver for the past several years.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Private graveside services will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Golden Paws Pet Resort Shelter in care of the mortuary.
