Richard Edward “Dick” Lowe, 83, of Joplin, MO passed away Thursday, May 15th, surrounded by his family.
Dick was born to Fred and Geneva Lowe of Joplin February 16,1931. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1949. Dick served his country in Korea, as part of the Army’s 7th Infantry Division. Following his two years of active service, Dick began working for AT&T. During his 38 year career, Dick and his family moved around the United States thirteen times. He retired from AT&T in 1989 and started his own consulting company, L.A.W. Consulting.
Dick married the love of his life, Jo Ann Vernon of Joplin, MO in 1955, and was happily married for 58 years. He was a devoted father to daughters Dy Ann and Jessica. Family was very important to Dick. After retiring from the consulting business, Dick moved back to Joplin, MO to be closer to his brothers and sister and was an active member of Forest Park Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and enjoyed working on the Church’s building expansion.
Dick was preceded in death by his siblings Robert Lowe (Louise), William Lowe and Patricia Patchin (Ed).
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann, daughters Dy Ann (Chuck) of Leawood, KS, Jessica Lowe of the home and his three grandchildren, Lauren Stilley, Sam Stilley and Le Ann (James Luce) . Also surviving is sister-in-law, Helen Lowe of Joplin, brother-in-law Gary Vernon (Sharon) of Joplin, brother-in-law Ron Vernon (Pat) of Mustang, OK and many nieces and nephews. Dick lived his life by loving God, his family and the church.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 21st, 11:00AM at Forest Park Baptist Church Chapel: 725 Highview Ave., Joplin, MO 64801.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Mt. Vernon Veterans Home, 1600 S. Hickory St., Mt. Vernon, MO 65712.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
