Charles Kaughman

Charles E. Kaughman, Sr. age 87, passed away on Tuesday May 2, 2014 at 11:20 a.m., at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage, Missouri, following a month long illness. Charles had never spent a single night in a hospital until breaking his hip and wrist on 3/29/14. He underwent a successful surgery repair, but his health slowly deteriorated, until he quietly passed into the arms of God. His family has been by his side throughout this time and are at peace, knowing his struggle is over. 

Charles was born on September 28, 1926, in Hoberg, Missouri, to Harold Harry Kaughman and Ora Ann Strait Kaughman. He was a Navy Seaman, retired, and worked for Hercules Powder Company for 20 years. He was a former member of the American Legion and was of the Christian faith. He lived his entire life in Carthage, Missouri, where he enjoyed fishing every lake, pond, river and stream. He loved sharing time with his family, especially playing cards, or pool, and telling stories with such zest that laughter always followed one of his sessions.We will miss his presence in our lives. He truly was one in a million.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers (Harold and Robert), 2 sisters (Pauline Dabbs and Dorothy Just) Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Imogene Hartley Kaughman, 3 children, Charlie Kaughman, Carthage, Connie Sue (Dr.Roy) Henry Springfield, and Sara Jane (Denny) Ritchhart, Jasper. 2 Sisters, Helen Hughes (LeRoy), Neosho, and Carolyn Ball, Joplin, 8 Grandchildren: Cory (Margaret) Kaughman, Eric (Stephanie) Kaughman, Brian (Julia) Henry, Brandon Henry and Adam Henry, Aaron Ritchhart, Devin Ritchhart, and Deidra Ritchhart. 4 Great Grandchildren: Cody & Kyara Kaughman and Blake and Jayce Kaughman, and several nieces and nephews and his special friends Dale Wright and Humberto Fuentes.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday May 5, 3014, at Ulmer Funeral Home, Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday May 5, 2014 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fasken Cemetery east of Carthage. Online condolences can be made atwww.ulmerfh.com
