Dennis Earl Hopkins, age 62, Neosho, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at National Health Care Center after an illness.
Dennis was born July 24, 1951 in Neosho to Howard Hopkins and Erna Weber Hopkins. Dennis had lived in the area all of his life.
He received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Missouri Southern State College and worked as a substitute teacher for the Joplin and Neosho school districts for 8 years. He was a successful salesman in the auto and mobile home industry and managed many pieces of real estate property. He truly was a jack of all trades.
Dennis raised and trained doves to release at special occasions. He enjoyed spending time in his shop, tinkering with ideas or working on home improvement projects. His favorite time was spent with his children and all of his grandchildren.
Dennis is survived by his life partner and companion, Pamela Vorhees, Neosho; children, Michele M. Vorhees, Carl Junction, Johnny B. Vorhees and his wife, Erin, Joplin, Scotty J. Vorhees, Joplin; one brother, David Hopkins and his wife, Kelli, Columbia, Missouri; two sisters, Cynthia Hopkins, Racine, Wisconsin, Sandra Craig and her husband, Scott, Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A celebration of Dennis’ Life is planned for Monday at 6:00 p.m. at Joplin Family Worship Center. Pastor Dan Wermuth will officiate. Friends will have the opportunity to share memories of Dennis during the celebration. The family will receive friends afterward. The family will scatter Dennis’ ashes in a private setting at a later date.
The family has invited all of his friends attending to wear their favorite flip flops in his honor.
