(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Mack Walton Stapp was born January 4, 1934 in Watts, OK to Ed and Lillian Stapp. He was one of six brothers and sisters and they shared many adventures!
Mack became a truck driver at the age of 14 (back when his first driver's license came from the drug store) and he loved working at the Joplin Fruit Market and eating his fill of fresh fruit. He joined the Army and fought to defend freedom during the Korean War. One of his heroes remained his Cherokee Grandfather Mack Welch (his namesake) and his Grandmother Maggie Welch. He talked about his Grandmother's homemade biscuits his entire life!
Mack married Helen Newman in 1958 and they remained happily married until her passing. They were married 56 years! He and Helen had 2 daughters, Christi and Cean.
Mack loved taking his 'girls' on trips to National Parks, to the mountains and visiting the oceans. He taught his daughters to love and respect nature and to enjoy simple pleasures and family time.
He loved exploring whether it was while driving an eighteen-wheeler to earn a living or whether it was family trips and vacations. The road was always his true home and where he was the happiest. He doted on his four grandchildren and was so proud of them all. Clint, Amanda, Ethan and Jacie are blessed to call him Papa and to have enjoyed his stories and lessons as they grew up to adore him. He is sorely missed and loved. But his spirit of adventure continues on in his children and grandchildren. We love you Dad and Papa! Explore the Universe!
