Lucille Smith

Lucille Smith age 89 of Joplin, MO passed away on August 30, 2022. She was born on July 19, 1933 to George and Ruth Eshom in Hutchison, KS. Lucille married her husband Richard Smith Sr on January 19, 1954 in Webb City, MO. and he preceded her in death.

Lucille graduated from Lamar High School and lettered in basketball, track, and tennis. She loved going to Webb City football games and loved her St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. Lucille loved to bowl.

Lucille was a member of the Oronogo Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher and youth leader. Lucille loved going to the Webb City Senior Center. Her favorite day at the center was bingo day.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Cornell of Oronogo, MO., Cathy Hailey and husband Stephen of Webb City, MO., Cheri Sampson and husband Jeff of Alba, MO., and a son, Richard E. Smith, Jr. of Pittsburg, Kansas; a brother, Roy Eshom of Kingsville, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

Lucille was preceded in death by her sisters, Florence Haffner, Grace Piontkowski, Helen Haw, Lois Eshom; and a brother, Bob Eshom.

The family will be present for a visitation on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home. Burial will follow services in Oronogo Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Oronogo Methodist Church or to the Webb City Senior Center in her memory.
