(From Parker Mortuary) James Alfred “Jimmy” Gariepy, age 89, Joplin, formerly of Roy, Utah, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at his home with family by his side.
James was born April 15, 1933 in Missoula, son of the late Alfred and Annabelle (Pearson) Gariepy. He grew up in Missoula and graduated from Missoula High School where he enjoyed playing football and basketball.
He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955. He worked in retail most of his life, starting with Woolworth, and later with K-Mart for over 27 years before retiring. He spent time in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah, moving to Joplin in 2019. He enjoyed being a member of the Key Club in high school, and later bowling for K-Mart and playing softball. He loved all sports, but his favorite teams were the Denver Broncos, the Utah Jazz, and the Philadelphia Phillies. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol (Jepson) Gariepy; son, Dean Gariepy and wife Judy of Layton, UT, daughter, Linda Munn and husband Charles of Joplin; sister, Alma Fink of Missoula; five grandchildren, Jessie Gariepy, Grant Gariepy, Zachary Munn, Andrew Munn, and Patrick Munn.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Veteran’s Affairs, especially Betty, Rhonda, and Jeanette.
Memorial service will be Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Chaplain Danny Mullins officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary with committal of his ashes taking place at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Missoula, MT.
