Renee Buck

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Renee Buck (born Dawna Renee Buck), 62, of Granby, MO, passed to the next life on Aug. 19th.

Cancer took her quickly as she had only been diagnosed with terminal cancer in June. She had been placed on hospice, but wanted to go home, and she died in the company of her lifetime partner, Sharon Havens, daughter Rebecca and granddaughter Riley in the early morning within 48 hours of leaving the hospital.

Over the 24 years that she and Sharon were together, Babboo (Renee) became as dedicated to Sharon’s children and grandchildren as she was to Sharon. She had a heart the size of Texas, had a wonderful sense of humor and was a loyal friend to many. Her caring was always reflected in her work life and she was cherished by all of her co-workers and patients. At Sharon’s consistent urging, Renee was finally able to restrict her foul language (except during Chiefs games).

Renee grew up around her father’s horses. They raised Tennessee Walkers that she loved caring for. It kicked off her love for animals that was with her throughout her life. She loved virtually all sports, was a softball pitcher for years and also was part of a local basketball team. She remained an avid sports fan(atic) all of her life. Please join us in celebrating Renee’s life with a beer and a toast before, during, and after every Chiefs game.

As a child, Renee always wanted to be a police officer, and she realized that dream after graduating from the Missouri Southern Police Academy in 1986. She joined the Neosho Police Department as a parole officer and was soon promoted to Corporal.

In the mid-90’s, she became the 1st Female Detective in the NPD, earning several special recognitions for child abuse and exploitation cases, as well as several municipal services awards. She was with the NPD for 14 years. After leaving the department, she became a case manager for the non-profit Private Industry Council helping displaced workers re-train for employment.

Following that, Renee enrolled at Crowder College, then at Ozark Technical Community College in Springfield, graduating Cum Laude in 2009 with a degree in Associate of Applied Science in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. She received her COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) license in Missouri and Arkansas and practiced that profession until she passed.
