(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)Gary McKinney, age 75, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Gary, son of the late Victor and Gaynelle (Treadway) McKinney, was born on March 10, 1947 in Joplin. He grew up and attended school in Hutchinson, KS. Soon after, he served his country honorably in the United States Army.
He later returned to Joplin to attended college at Missouri Southern State University. After completing his Bachelors in Business Administration, he later attended Rhema Biblical Seminary where he completed theological studies for his ministerial credentials.
He was united in marriage to Frankie Burress on July 17, 1971 at the First Christian Church in Joplin. Gary owned and operated McKinney Plumbing until his retirement. He then continued his ministry expanding and launching an engaging online ministry for several years.
He was athletic through high school and continued throughout his life being active in outdoor sports such as golf and tennis and was a licensed pilot. He was a member of the Central Christian Center in Joplin.
Survivors include his wife, Frankie McKinney; one son, Gary McKinney; two grandchildren, Matthew McKinney and Michael McKinney; his sister, Jill Hoskins; and sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Curtis Smart. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by one grandson, Robbie McKinney.
Memorial services with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Central Christian Center Fellowship Hall.
