Ellen Yoes

(From Knell Mortuary)

Ellen Tilton Yoes, age 90, Reeds, MO passed away Monday, August 22nd, 2022, at The Fremont Senior Living, Springfield, MO.

She was born on August 24, 1931 in Carthage, MO, the daughter of Thomas and Clara (Holdeman) Tilton. She attended Center Point One Room School and graduated from Carthage High School in 1949. She married Austin Yoes on May 29, 1958.

Upon graduation from High School she worked for Beimdiek Insurance until the birth of her son.

After a few years as a stay-at-home mom, she began work at Avilla School as a teacher’s aide and eventually became the school secretary. In reality, she functioned as an assistant superintendent!

After 36 years she surrendered her 10 pound key ring and became active as a volunteer at the Jasper County Records Center where she became involved with the RCWWA. (Records Center Widow Women and Associates…..the Associates husbands were still alive!) These Ladies were VERY dear to Ellen’s Heart. For many years this group made a new baby quilt for every baby born at McCune Brooks/Mercy hospital in Carthage.

Ellen was a lifelong member of Center Point Christian Church where she formed lasting friendships and grew in her faith. She served the church family in many different capacities over the years including teaching Sunday School and lots of cooking for church dinners and funerals.

She is survived by her son, Bill Yoes (Shelly) of Nixa, MO; two grandchildren, Amy Richter (Tyler) of Springfield, MO, and Joshua Yoes (Madison) of St. Clair, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband Austin and her parents, Tom and Clara Tilton.

She will be remembered for being a great mom, for her servant’s heart and for her sweet and occasionally ornery disposition.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Center Point Christian Church on Saturday, October 8th at 1:30 PM. The address is 11995 County Road 80, Carthage, MO 64836.

Memorial gifts may be made to Christian Campus House at Missouri State University in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 West Chestnut St., Carthage, MO 64836. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
