(From Knell Mortuary)James Neel “Jim” Baucom, 49, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, August 17, 2022. Jim was born February 20, 1973, at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, the son of Richard “Neel” Baucom and Janice Lea (Dalton) Baucom. He was a 1991 graduate of Carthage High School and attended Missouri Southern State University.
After moving to the Kansas City area Jim met a Kansas girl, Jean Pfalser, and they were married on November 2, 2002, in Kansas City, Missouri. Together they have one amazing daughter, Anna, 14.
For over thirty years he worked in the IT field in many roles, eventually as a Network Security Engineer for the Murphy-Hoffman Company, Leawood, KS. Jim’s passion was fishing, especially with his dad, and annual family vacations across the country. He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, and all things Star Wars. He was also a dedicated supporter of the public school system and held many positions with local PTA units, the Shawnee Mission Area Council PTA, and the Kansas State PTA.
Jim's final wish would be that each of you take someone you care about fishing, go to a baseball game, volunteer often, and support your local public school.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Jean Baucom; his daughter, Anna Baucom; his mother, Janice Baucom; his brother, Justin Baucom (Kelsey); a niece, Charlie Baucom; a nephew, Sagan Baucom; two sisters-in-law, Jane Herrington and Ranetta Pfalser; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neel Baucom; and a brother-in-law, John Pfalser.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the Knell Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Park Cemetery Carthage, Missouri. The family will receive friends form 1 pm to service time at the Knell Mortuary.
