(From Knell Mortuary)Dorothy Mildred VanGilder, 90, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage, Missouri. She was born on August 14, 1932, in Butler, Missouri, the daughter of Herbert and Bina (West) Havens. She graduated from Lamar High School with the class of 1950.
She married Charles VanGilder on November 17, 1950, in Lamar, Missouri, he preceded her in death on October 11, 2003.
She worked as a Customer Service Manager for Mobil Com in Santa Ana, California. She attended the First Christian Church of Carthage after moving back to Missouri in 1992. Dorothy enjoyed reading, crocheting, and playing cards. She adored her sisters, but most of all spending time with her family.
Survivors include three sons, David VanGilder, Oceanside, California, Mark VanGilder (Janet) Hemet, California, and Clay VanGilder (Wendy), Carthage, Missouri; six grandchildren, Keith VanGilder, Kelley Szulakiewicz, Michelle Smith, Kris VanGilder, Cassandra Holliday, and Jason VanGilder; two sisters, Marjorie Welton, Carthage, Missouri, and Vonna Ralston, Carthage, Missouri.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Gary VanGilder; and brother, Walter Havens.
Per Dorothy’s wishes there was cremation and private family services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of one’s choice in care of the Knell Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
