A proud graduate of Joplin High School in 1952, Janet's pursuit of knowledge led her to further her education at Franklin Tech, graduating in 1978, where she earned her license as a Practical Nurse (L.P.N.). Her career in nursing spanned many years, with her compassionate care touching the lives of countless individuals at St. John's Hospital in Joplin and various other medical offices. Before her calling to nursing, Janet served with distinction as an office manager, where her organizational skills and warm demeanor made her a beloved figure among her colleagues.
Janet's Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active and devoted member of Iron Gates Christian Church of Joplin, where she found joy in serving her church community. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she cherished every moment spent loving on her son, Tim Lankford of Joplin, MO, and daughter, Cris Veith (James) of Stotts City, MO. Janet's legacy continues through her adored grandchildren: Tori, Kiya, Aubri, Mikala, and Colt, who will forever hold their grandmother's memory in their hearts.
She is survived by her brothers, Willard Black, Jr. of Sacramento, CA, and Dave Black (Lois) of Springfield, MO, and her sister, Joy Houston of Joplin. Janet's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the love of her family and friends, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
Other than her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her two daughters, Cynthia and Carmen; and a sister, Joan.
Private burial was completed at Osborne Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
