(From Ulmer Funeral Home)Kerry Lee Peterson, 78, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Kerry was born on December 1, 1947, son of the late Marion and Betty Peterson, in Lamar, Missouri. Kerry worked as a machinist at Lozier. He served in the Army and was the recipient of a Bronze Star in the Vietnam war. Kerry liked to spend his free time fishing, driving his dune buggy, check out some cool cars at the car show, and watching westerns.
Kerry was united in marriage to Betty Kathleen Vaughn on May 7, 1971; she preceded him in death on January 18, 2001.
Later, Kerry met Sandra Jost Sullivan and married her July 25, 2009; she preceded him in death on July 11, 2025.
He is survived by his sons; Levi Peterson (Rosie) and Ryan Peterson; and his daughter Stephanie Grimes (Roger); eight grandkids, Cole, Ethan, Ry-lee, Olivia, Ava, Mason, Addison, and Sophie, and three great grandkids, Dawson, Brentlee, and Ollie.
There will be a funeral service for Kerry at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage. The visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:30 PM at Ulmer Funeral home before the service. The burial will take place at Nashville Cemetery in Nashville, Missouri.
