Phillip Roth

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Philip Aaron Roth, age 67, of Columbus, Kansas on Saturday, February 7, 2026 in Mindenmines, Missouri.

Philip was born to Jake Peter Jr. (J.P.) and Dorothy Evelyn (Eaton) Roth on September 12, 1958, in Hawthorne, California; they both preceded him in death. During his youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Philip was also a member of Columbus Future Farmers of America and Cherokee County 4-H as a young man. He graduated from Columbus Unified High School with the Class of 1976, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University in Computer Science, as well as his welding certification, also from PSU. He was united in marriage to Angela Crain on August 31, 1991, in Columbus; they later divorced. 






Philip worked for Pitsco in Pittsburg, Kansas, and also Atkinson. For most of his adult life, Philip continued the family tradition of farming. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed several outdoor activities including deer hunting, trout fishing, hunting for morels, kayaking, and camping. Philip was an avid outdoorsman and always enjoyed the peace that nature brought him.

Philip is survived by Angela Roth of Shell Knob, MO; daughters Rachelle Rush (husband Tyler) of Jasper, MO, and Renee Kirkwood (husband Hunter) of Columbus, KS; his grandchildren include: Ella, Emrie, Wylder, Emelia, Wryder, Endie, and Waylon. Philip will be greatly missed by all that loved him.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, Kansas. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made payable to either Rachelle Rush or Renee Roth. Contributions will be for the grandchildren, and may be left in care of the funeral home.
