(From Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home)Charles Joseph Sweeney, age 86, of Webb City, Missouri, was born on May 19, 1939, in Cotter, Arkansas, to John and Ada Sweeney and departed this life on June 22, 2026, after an illness. He married Lorena Jantz on March 16, 1969, and they shared fifty-five years together until her death on February 3, 2025.
He leaves behind two daughters Lori Bowman (Doug) of Springfield, Missouri and Cari Sweeney of Webb City, Missouri as well as one grandson, Joseph Albrecht, of Springfield, Missouri. He was also preceded in death by his older half-brother, Jack Sweeney and younger brother, Thomas Sweeney.
Charles graduated from Nevada high school in Nevada, Missouri in 1958 and worked in bookkeeping and accounting until he retired. He was also a member of the Oronogo Church on the Hill. Charles loved his family, took pride in his home and yardwork, and loved to go fishing and hunting.
Visitation will be held at Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 5-7:00 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at the funeral home with Pastor Terri Haywood officiating. Burial will follow at Weaver Cemetery in Oronogo, Missouri. Memorials are being directed to the Church on the Hill Building Fund c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
