John was born on June 26, 1949, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of the late John Henry and Elsie Jane (Grimes) Ratliff. He lived a life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and a spirited love for the simple joys that made each day meaningful
A carpenter by trade, John took pride in his work and in the value of building things that would last. His craftsmanship reflected his character, as he was dependable, practical, and committed to doing a job well.
John found joy in the quieter pleasures of life. He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, and playing checkers. These interests were a reflection of who he was, a man who appreciated both peace and companionship, and who found contentment in moments shared with others. Whether he was spending time outdoors, enjoying his favorite tune, or sitting down for a game of checkers, John brought his own spirited energy to every experience. He had a way of making ordinary moments feel memorable.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Lovell of Carthage, Missouri, along with several nieces and nephews and many other extended family members. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Rust and Carolyn Killman.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage, Missouri. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
