(From Ozark Funeral Home)Vergil Lee Williams, 78, of Anderson, Missouri, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Born on March 16, 1948, in Stella, Missouri, he was the son of the late Virgil A. and Naomi B. (Lawrence) Williams.
In 1967, Vergil was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country with distinction and honor. During his two years of service, he was awarded the Purple Heart. Following an injury, he spent the remainder of his military career stationed in Okinawa, Japan, serving as an Army clerk typist. It was during his time in the service that he began a devoted correspondence with Betty Jean Jones, who would soon become the love of his life. Following his honorable discharge, Vergil and Betty were married, and together they raised two children, Rebecca and Michael.
Vergil spent his dedicated professional career working at La-Z-Boy, where he took great pride in his craft of assembling chairs. Vergil always made sure to have a La-Z-Boy chair at his home, the perfect place to relax after a hard day’s work.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dale Williams.
Vergil is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Williams of Anderson; his daughter, Rebecca Franklin (Jeff) of Anderson; and his son, Michael Williams (Elizabeth) of Anderson.
He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Luke Williams, Jacob Franklin, Christopher Franklin and five great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother, Danny Williams of Neosho; and his four sisters: Connie Burns (Joe) of Anderson, Edith Kimbrough (Danny Duncan) of Jasper, Donna Brattin (Alan) of Wheaton, and Mary Banks (Ervin) of Goodman. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Graveside services for Vergil will be held at 10:00 AM on July 01, 2026, at the Tracy Cemetery 7004 State Highway 76 Pineville, Missouri, 64831. Reverend Bob Holloway will officiate.
