Greg Wene

Dr. Gregory Lance Wene, 77, Jefferson City, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones June 18, 2026. He was born November 18, 1948 in Joplin, Missouri, to James L. and Betty (Robbins) Wene. On March 1, 1969 in Riverton, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Glenda Robertson.

Greg graduated from Baxter Springs High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Missouri Southern State University, a Masters in Education from Drury University, and a Doctor of Chiropractic from Life Chiropractic College. 

In 1970, Greg answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army. He served with distinction, deploying to Camp Darby, Pisa, Italy, and attained the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge in 1972.

Greg went on to become a dedicated science educator for over 25 years. Beyond the curriculum, he loved coaching tennis and the academic team.

His family will remember competitive game nights, dad jokes, his willingness to help, and cooking up family breakfasts. If he wasn't spending time with his family, you could find him playing golf or tennis, working in the yard, reading, woodworking in the garage, or cheering on the New York Yankees.

In addition to his beloved wife, Glenda, he is survived by a son: Brian (Erica) Wene of Jefferson City; daughter: Angela (Brian) Hake of Jefferson City; grandchildren: Kayla (Ben) Putnam, Alyssa Simon (Fiancé Clyde Daniels), Zachary Simon ( Fiancé Jenna Flory), Brianna (Ryan) Burke, Austin Hake; brothers: Robin (Sherry) Wene of Baxter Springs, Ks., and Jon (Bonnie) Pettus of Pittsburg, Ks.

He was preceded in death by his father: James L. Wene; mother: Betty Pettus; and step-father: Merle Pettus.

?A Visitation to Celebrate Greg's Life will be Tuesday, June 30, 2026 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Meriwether Room at Tyler M. Woods Funeral Director.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
