Jim Reed

Berlyn "Jim" E Reed, born September 9th 1956, at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska passed away peacefully at his home on September 23rd, 2025, in Sarcoxie, Missouri.

He was a graduate of Jefferson High school in Great Bend, Kansas. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1973 serving in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient for his injuries. Berlyn was a YEOMAN YN3 class stationed on the USS Fairfax County out of Norfolk, Virginia. He was also involved in the extraction of American POWs from Vietnam during his service.







As a child, he enjoyed being a Boy Scout and playing football. After his military service, he drove an 18-Wheeler for more than 35 years. He was a member of the Patriot guard riders of Southwest Missouri. He was an all-around handyman, willing to tackle anything and he was also an avid Eagle lover but loved his Ford trucks just as much! In his life he was most passionate about music. He loved singing and performing and writing music. He had talent unlike any other. He could play every instrument from the drums to the guitar to a piano, as well as a fiddle. However, he never learned how to play the flute or the piccolo.

He was preceded in death by his father. Alfred Daniel Reed of Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania in 1975, his mother, Darlene Mae Partridge-Geyer, of LaCross, Kansas, in 2017. He was also preceded in death by his Godfather Air Force General Curtis LeMay in 1990, and a daughter Gia, of Great Bend, Kansas.

Berlyn is survived by Ronda, a wife of 10 years, a brother Vernon Reed and a sister Marsha Reed. He's also survived by 4 children, Kathy Bloodsworth and her husband Darren of Princess Anne, Maryland. A daughter Alicia McPherson and her husband William of Benton, Illinois. A son Andrew Hughes of Kansas and a daughter Brandy Lennis of Oklahoma. He is also survived by several grandchildren Jessica Truitt and her husband Storm Bradley of Pocomoke, Maryland. A grandson Brandon Truitt of Crisfield, Maryland and Grandsons Darren Jr, Dylan and Dustin Bloodsworth of Princess Anne, Maryland. A Grandson Nathan Truitt and his wife Cheyanne of Webb City, Missouri. A Granddaughter Gia and grandsons Liam and Axel of Benton, Illinois. And Granddaughters Natasha Vidal and her husband Jorge Jr. and Natalie Hughes of Kansas. 






He is also survived by great grandchildren Aaron Jr, Briar, Dalton, and Nora Grace Johnson of Pocomoke, Maryland. Grandson Laityn Dale and an unborn great granddaughter Heaven Truitt of Webb City, Missouri. And a great granddaughter Eloise Vidal of Kansas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and 3 very special friends Robert Reed of Webb City, Missouri, Lisa Moore of Sarcoxie, Missouri and Miranda Mejia-Veith of Joplin, Missouri.


A Celebration of Life is being held at the Community Building at 218 N 5th Street in Sarcoxie, Missouri on Saturday June 20th at 1 pm.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri.
