Melissa Brown

Melissa Sue Brown, 56, founder of Safe Haven Outreach Mission, of Parsons, lost her fight to liver disease and has gone home to be with her Lord at 12:14 P.M., Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at her home.

She was born September 7, 1969 at Chanute, a daughter of George Dale and Linda Sue (Jones) Shultz. She began elementary school at Chanute and then moved to Parsons with her family, graduating from the Parsons High School with the Class of 1988. 






Following graduation, she attended the Labette Community College. She then worked eight years at Safeway and later Country Mart and Wal-Mart. She later worked as a secretary at the Parsons Foursquare Church, Dwayne’s Photo the Youth Crisis Shelter, and was a para at Garfield Elementary School. She also had worked in the Payroll Department at SKIL. In 2010 she founded Safe Haven, Inc. and retired in 2022.

On May 15, 1993 she and Mark P. Brown were united in marriage at Parsons.

She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church. She enjoyed bowling and arts and crafts.








Survivors include: her husband and caregiver – Mark P. Brown, of the home; two daughters - Heaven Brown, and her children – Nevaeh and Legend, of Parsons, KS, Hailey Brown (her caregiver), and her children – Raphael, Nyla, Estan and Elias, Of Parsons, KS; one son - Austin Brown, and his children – Jaleel, Myka, Milana, Mia, Brielle, Aaliyah, Aziah, and was preceded in death by his daughter – Ariella “Ari”; Her mother – Linda Shultz, of Neosho, MO; her father – George Shultz, of Parsons, KS; two brothers – Jeffrey Shultz, of Parsons, KS, Timothy Shultz, Of Parsons, KS; one sister – Deborah Turner, of Neosho, MO.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 3, 2026 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Encarnacion officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service-time at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to defray expenses. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O.
