(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)Gertrude Bernice Haynes, age 87, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 7:47 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at her home, in Mt. Vernon. She was born October 6, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James Albert and Esther Franklin (Clark) Martin.
Gert was a 1958 graduate of Bethel Park High School in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania and was a United States Navy veteran. Gert and her husband Richard were the owners and operators of Mom and Pop's Donut Shop in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She loved watching birds and was a member of the Mt. Vernon VFW Post 4541 and the Ozark Presbyterian (Brick) Church of Mt. Vernon.
On May 18, 1960, she married Richard Haynes in Oakland, California. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2021.
Gert is survived by her daughter, Donna Ellis, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Gert was preceded in death by her parents, James, and Esther Martin; husband, Richard Haynes; daughter, Lonna Maurico; two granddaughters, Kady Ellis, and Candice Mauricio; two brothers, James Martin and Charles Martin and son-in-law, Dwayne Ellis.
No services are planned currently. Burial will be held later at Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fossett Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
