(From Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home)Robert Neil Mooney, age 82, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
He was born on July 20, 1943, in Lamar, Missouri, and spent his formative years in Liberal, Missouri, where he was raised and graduated from high school. He later continued his education at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.
He retired from the Army National Guard after years of faithful service. While in the Guards, he served on the Missouri Governor’s 12 Sharp Shooters. In addition to his military career, he was a talented autobody repairman throughout his life, and he took pride in the skill and care he brought to his work.
Outside of work, Robert enjoyed collecting guns and was a gifted woodcarver. His hands were often busy creating, repairing, or preserving something of value, and his interests reflected both his appreciation for craftsmanship and his respect for tradition.
He is survived by his two sons, David Mooney and wife, Mary, and Jason Mooney, all of Pittsburg, Kansas; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Marianne Page of Liberal, Missouri; as well as a host of other family and friends. His parents, Neil and Lois Mooney and his wife, Deidre Mooney, preceded him in death.
Cremation arrangements are under the care of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
