Gerald Winningham

Gerald E. Winningham, age 80, of Golden City, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Freeman West Hospital.
     Gerald was born December 6, 1934 at his family’s home in Dade County, Missouri, to Frank and Ella (Evans) Winningham.  On March 25, 1954, Gerald married Darline Anderson.  They made their home and raised their three sons, Wayne, John and Mark, in the Jerico Springs area.  In addition to being a life-long farmer, Gerald delivered propane for more than 35 years.  An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed working on the farm and hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren.
     Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ella Winningham; two brothers, Willie and Earl Winningham; and one son, John Winningham.
     Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Darline, of the home; two sons, Wayne Winningham, Carl Junction and Mark (Cherylon) Winningham, Carthage; a sister, Connie (Max) Montgomery, Jerico Springs; three sisters-in-law, Loraine Sanders, Arlington, Texas, Nadine (David) Perkins, Roscoe, Missouri, and Patsy (Bill) Baker, Lincoln, Nebraska; a brother-in-law, Andy (Debbie) Anderson, El Dorado Springs, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jessica (Carl) Manke, Crystal Winningham, and Tyler (Hannah) Winningham; and four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Dalton, Tate, and Johnny.
     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4th at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery near Jerico Springs.

     Memorial contributions are suggested to Greenfield Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Michael Prince

Michael “Mike “ John Prince age 63 of Joplin, Mo passed away January 31, 2015 at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. 

He was born on October 25, 1951 in Oceanside, Ca the son of Thomas and Jane Prince. Mike married Vickie Farrar on August 25, 1973 she preceded him in death on January 23, 1987. He later married Menila Capps on July 30, 2004 in Joplin. Mike was a member of the Independent Bethel Baptist Church, he was a musician who loved to write, play and sing music for his family and church. He also enjoyed carpentry work especially woodworking, even building a home for his family but most of all he loved and enjoyed his family. 

Mike was also preceded in death by his parents, a son Aaron Prince, and a sister Treva Prince. Survivors include his wife Menila of the home, two sons: James Peeples of Joplin, Mo and Brandon Peeples of Carthage, MO; five daughters: Mandy Hall and husband Erick of Aurora, MO Carla Talbert of Pierce City, MO, Heather Prince of Kansas City, Mo, Jessica Schulz and husband Jason of Auburn, Wa and Christina Cadwallader and husband Israel of Joplin, MO; five brothers: Tommy, Paul, Jamie, Donnie, and Tony Prince; a sister Maria Harmon and ten grandchildren Brii Morris, Brenden Hall, Mackenzie Hall, Jayden Talbert, Caitlin Talbert, Destani Gary, Jordyne Gary, Jacob Wyrick, Skylar Wyrick and Aidan Peeples. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday February 5, 2015 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory with minister Blaine Nordstrom Officiating. Burial will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday February 4, 2015 at the Mortuary. The family suggests contributions to the Joplin VFW Post 534 or Water Gardens Ministry in care of the mortuary.

Carol Wyer

Carol June Wyer, 73, Seneca, MO, passed into eternal rest January 30, 2015 at her home in Seneca, MO.

Carol worked as bakery clerk and at Eagle Pitcher Ind. retiring in 2003. Carol married Robert (Bob) Wyer, March 23, 1988 in Miami, OK and he survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Karri Mae Myers, Payola, KS and one son Timothy Noble, Overland Park, KS; one brother Richard Guthrie, Joplin, MO and one sister Pauline Woodard, Denver, CO;Carol was preceded in death by one brother, LeRoy Guthrie and two sisters, Erama Gene Brineckie and Peggy Carrillo.

The body has been taken for cremation under the direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Lee Anne Sweezy

Lee Anne “Fairchild” Sweezy, 68, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015. Lee Anne was born December 18, 1946 in Joplin; MO to Charles and Virginia Fairchild. Lee Anne graduated from Joplin High school 1964 and received her Bachelor in Education from MSSU in 1980. She was a teacher at the Joplin R- 8 Columbia Elementary until retirement. She then moved to Carthage in 1991.

Lee Anne was united in marriage to Max Sweezy June 22, 1991 in Carthage, MO. He preceded her in death February 2, 2014. Lee Anne is survived by her mother Virginia Fairchild of Saginaw, MO, two sons Thad Taylor of Joplin, MO and Brice Taylor and his wife Tracy of Overland Park, Kansas, two step-daughters Andrea Sneed of Carthage, MO and Audra Hitchborn of Keller, Texas, ten grandchildren Lauren Taylor, Jake Taylor, Abby Taylor, Collin Taylor, Seth Taylor, Madison Hitchborn, Sofia Hitchborn, Morgan Sneed, Avery Sneed and Eli Sneed, one sister Dee Lynn Davey, two brothers Paul Warren Fairchild and Charles “Glen” Fairchild. She was honorary grandma to Joshua and Justin Sneed. Lee Anne is preceded by her husband and her father Charles Fairchild.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday February 3, 2015 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday February 2, 2015 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Fullerton Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.ulmerfh.com.

Freda Garretson

Freda M. Garretson, age 90, formerly of Asbury, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Foxberry Terrace in Webb City. 

She was born on January 20, 1925 in Oronogo, Missouri to Charlie Scott and Dora (Berry) Scott. Freda was a lifetime area resident and a homemaker, and a member of the Asbury Baptist Church.

 Freda married Wesley Garretson on June 11, 1950 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Delma Rea, Thelma Collier; and a brother, Homer Scott. Freda is survived by a sister, Lillian Ward of Joplin, along with several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City with Reverend Ron Crow officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery.

Terisa Shipley

Terisa Lynn Shipley, 46, Wyandotte, OK, passed away January 28, 2015 at her residence after a sudden illness.

 Terisa Lynn Wasson was born November 13, 1968 in Siloam Springs, AR the daughter of Russell and JoAnn (Friend) Wasson. She was a homemaker. Terisa Lynn Wasson married James Mitchell Shipley Jr. January 28, 1989 in Seneca, MO and he survives. 

Additional survivors include her parents, Russell and JoAnn Wasson, Miami, OK; one son; James Shipley III, Dallas, TX; one daughter Anna Shipley, Seneca, MO; one brother; Greg Wasson, Seneca; three sisters, Penny Taylor, Joplin, Rebecca Cook, Miami, OK and Tammy Hull, state of TX;
Terisa was preceded in death by one infant son Russell James Shipley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00PM, Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO. The body will be taken for cremation following services.

Boots Hodge

Freeman “Boots” Hodge, 92, of Seneca Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on January 30, 2015. 
 
Boots was born to the late Flavious and Alice Hodge, June 2, 1922 in Duncan, OK. He met his sweetheart, Madie Hudson, and they married on October 5, 1946 in Clovis, NM. They began their 48-year journey together in Littlefield, TX then later settled together in the home they built in Seneca, Missouri. She preceded him in death August 28, 1994. 
 
Boots was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys Adkins; brothers Buddy Hodge; Buster Hodge; Tobe Hodge; Pete Hodge; Don Hodge; and Elbert Hodge. 

Boots enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific. During Boots’ meaningful life he served many purposes in life. He built many homes in the Carl Junction area as a building contractor, was a livestock producer with many cattle, horses and hogs. Boots was very active in the Warrens Branch Community, serving many years on the school board. He was one of the original founders and leaders of ‘Busy Beavers’ 4-H Club. He was the ‘Old Cowboy’ in every sense of the word, dedicating his life to family and hard work while leaving a legacy full of love. 
 
Boots is survived by four children, Tom and Merlene Hodge; Sue Hodge; Patty Hughes; and Pam Brown. He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren, Travis and Colleen Hughes; Josh and Amy Hughes; Marcy and Brad Ward; Eric and Jessica Hughes; Mark and Michelle Hodge; Tera and Scott Walker; Ryan and Cassie Hughes; Lacy Brown; Justin Hodge; Blake Hodge; Charity Hodge; and Judd Hodge. 22 Great Grandkids and 1 Great Great Grandson also survive him. He was preceded in death by Grandson Ross Brown. 

In honor of Boots, a Celebration of his life will be held at 2PM Monday February 2nd at Racine Christian Church, Racine, MO.
