Wylie Floyd Burkhart, age 76, of Joplin, passed away on March 2, 2018 at Mercy Hospital, following an illness.
Wylie was born on June 29, 1941 in Neosho, Mo. the son of the late Alvie and Maxine (Macy) Burkhart. He married Nancy Irene Fenix on February 2, 1962 and together they raised two children. He had a long successful career in the construction industry. He was owner operator of Burkhart Custom Built Buildings and Advantage Builders.
Wylie had a strong relationship with Jesus Christ, which he passed along to his entire family. He was a past member of Galena First Christian Church, Bethel Community Church, and James River Assembly of God Church in Springfield, Mo. In the 70’s and 80’s he sang with Gospel Lights. Wylie treasured his family, he loved cooking for family get-togethers. He constantly encouraged and supported his family and friends, and he had a positive influence on everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Nancy Burkhart, Joplin; one son, Michael Burkhart and wife Shani, Springfield, Mo.; one daughter, Christina Cruzan and husband Darren, Stafford, Va.; two sisters, Sharon Boyle and husband Tom, Topeka, Ks., and Betty Winstone and husband Mel, Joplin, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jason Burkhart and wife Lauren, Carthage, Mo., Chris Burkhart and wife Lisa, Springfield, Mo., Meghan Sims and husband Ethan, Orlando, Fl., Shane Burkhart, Hannah Cruzan, and Madison Cruzan; seven great-grandchildren, Cora, Anna, Eli, Alex, Maya, Audrey, and Ben; a sister-in-law, Carolene Lilly-Weiss, Riverton, Ks.; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Max and Charles Burkhart; and three sisters, Anne Caviness, June Macy- Galbraith, and Joyce McCrackin-Boyers.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Van Benson will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12:30 p.m. Wednesday until service time.
