Margaret (Peggy) Esch of Joplin, Missouri, died peacefully on April 28, 2018 at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her death and for many days before.

Peggy was born in Monett, Missouri, on August 16, 1951 to Bill and Loretta Vogt. She was clearly a “daddy’s girl” from an early age and loved to spend time with her dad in his shop.

Her early education was in the Joplin Catholic school system. She graduated from McAuley Catholic High School in 1969. She began her college years at Missouri Southern and subsequently attended the University of South Florida in Tampa.

After taking a break from work to raise her two young daughters she returned to employment with the State of Missouri. She was a multi-talented lady – no home repair or decorating project was too big for her to tackle. She participated in adult league softball and soccer with her two young daughters in the stands. She was an excellent water skier and snow skier as well.

Peggy married the love of her life, John Esch, on October 28, 1996. Their marriage was an inspiration to all their children. For the last few years they have been fortunate to spend the winter months in Sarasota, Florida. Not surprisingly, their children and grandchildren loved to visit there and Peggy loved to have them.

Recently, when she was very ill and in the hospital, she sat straight up in bed and exclaimed, “Swing open those pearly gates…I’m coming through!” She was quite disappointed to find that she was still here on earth as she had been ready to “go home” for quite some while. This time, she did indeed enter those pearly gates to be greeted by the many friends and family that have gone on before her. Those greeting her on the other side include Floyd Butler, her first husband and father of her children, and Lawrence “Blackie” Mynatt, her second husband. She loved them both and often said that the Lord had given her two wonderful men who loved her. Also greeting her there are her parents, a brother, and four sisters. She was looking forward to seeing her son, Gary Butler, whom she has missed since 2008.

She was MaMaw to six grandchildren and BaBa to four grandchildren, and dearly loved by many great- grandchildren, family and countless friends. She enjoyed gardening, camping, reading, playing games, and keeping up with family on her iPad. She won so many bingo and card games that she was known as “Lucky Lois”.

Lois was a woman of strong faith and could be counted on to help pray you through whatever trouble you might be facing. Those who were on her prayer list will truly miss her daily prayers for us.
