Peggy Esch

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Margaret (Peggy) Esch of Joplin, Missouri, died peacefully on April 28, 2018 at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her death and for many days before.

Peggy was born in Monett, Missouri, on August 16, 1951 to Bill and Loretta Vogt. She was clearly a “daddy’s girl” from an early age and loved to spend time with her dad in his shop.

Her early education was in the Joplin Catholic school system. She graduated from McAuley Catholic High School in 1969. She began her college years at Missouri Southern and subsequently attended the University of South Florida in Tampa.

While at Missouri Southern she was also employed at the First National Bank of Joplin in the Trust Department and still has many friends from her time there. After taking a break from work to raise her two young daughters she returned to employment with the State of Missouri. She was the manager of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for thirteen years before her retirement.

She was a multi-talented lady – no home repair or decorating project was too big for her to tackle. She participated in adult league softball and soccer with her two young daughters in the stands. She was an excellent water skier and snow skier as well.

Peggy married the love of her life, John Esch, on October 28, 1996. Their marriage was an inspiration to all their children. For the last few years they have been fortunate to spend the winter months in Sarasota, Florida. Not surprisingly, their children and grandchildren loved to visit there and Peggy loved to have them.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Bill Vogt.

Peggy is survived by her husband, John Esch; her mother, Loretta Vogt; her sister Judy Cartwright (Ken), her daughters, Mallory Moser (Carson), Megan Scott; stepchildren, Emily Esch (Gavin Henry), Ryan Esch (Stephanie), Erika Esch (Willie Boswell); and her beloved grandchildren, Tucker Scott, Evelyn, Jackson, Oliver, and Oscar Moser, Otis, Sawyer and Holden Esch, and Claire and Mabel Boswell; her nieces and many grand-nieces and nephews.

Words cannot describe how badly Peggy will be missed. Rosary will be recited by Fr. Larry Parker at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with visitation following until 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Thursday, May 3, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. J. Friedel and Fr. Larry Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Joplin Area Catholic Schools or the Lafayette House. Online condolences may be sent through our website www.thornhilldillon.com. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
