Mary Nyander

Mrs. Mary Alice Nyander, 90, of Grove, Oklahoma, formerly of Southwest City, Missouri, departed this life on Tuesday evening, April 10, 2018, at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove, Oklahoma, after a sudden illness.

Mary entered this life on December 15, 1927, in Helena, Montana, born to the late Lawrence and Ella Marie (Tufty) Pike. She was a graduate of Grass Range High School. On February 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Hickson Nyander and to this union five children were born. Mary was a devoted homemaker throughout her life. They resided on numerous military bases throughout the world before moving to Southwest City, Missouri, in 1967. She enjoyed gardening and simply being a mother and grandmother. She was a longtime member of the Southwest City United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, infant Rosalee Pike, Ellen Blake and Dorothy Pike; and a brother, Gene Pike.

Mary is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Hickson Nyander of the home; five children, Hal Nyander and wife, Penny, of Hereford, Arizona, Debra Watts and husband, Jim, of Republic, Missouri, Bret Nyander of Livingston, Texas, Tim Nyander and wife, Beckie, of Springdale, Arkansas and Suzanne Sutton and husband, Randy, of Anderson, Missouri; two stepsons, Stuart Nyander of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Alan Gulick and wife, Cindy, of Lake Forest, California; thirteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nyander are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Southwest City, Missouri, with Pastor Mark Kailbourn officiating. Burial will follow in the Polson Cemetery near Southwest City. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. in the Southwest City Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Southwest City United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home.
