James Kenneth Hurtt, age 68, Joplin, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 6, 2018 in Licking, Missouri.
James was born July 20, 1949 in Indio, California, son of the late John Kenneth Hurtt and Loraine D. Miller Hurtt Comfort of Joplin. He worked with his uncle Russell, at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club, and then worked for several years with Rex Casket Company in Webb City. He later worked for years as a roofer with his stepfather, Bill Comfort and his sons. He enjoyed playing handball, and was champion of the Moberly, Missouri and Jefferson City, Missouri leagues. He was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his father Kenneth Hurtt, James was preceded in death by his step-father, Bill Comfort, and a son-in-law, Corey VanWey, uncles Jack Miller and Carl Estell Palmer.
Survivors include his mother, Loraine Comfort of Joplin; two sons, Kenney Hurtt and Dustin Hurtt of Joplin; two daughters, Jamie Hurtt VanWey of Carthage, and Peaches Goodwin of Joplin; Sharon Hurtt of Joplin; sister, Lanita Hayden of Champagne, Illinois; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; uncle, Russell Hurtt and wife Betty of Joplin; Aunts, Shirley King and husband Kenny of Joplin, Mary Wiley of Harrington, Kansas; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Tim Darch officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
