Ritzy Rene Stokesberry, age 81, Carl Junction, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Mercy Hospital – Joplin. She was born on October 4, 1936 in Huntsville, Alabama, the daughter of John “Honey” and Lorene Richards Grady. Ritzy worked as a hairdresser prior to working in her chosen profession as a teacher. She received her Master’s degree from Southern Illinois University and taught in Special Education classes for Joplin High School for many years.
She married Charles Stokesberry on August 21, 1973 in Miami, Oklahoma. Ritzy moved to the Joplin, Missouri area in 1979.
Ritzy is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her baby sister, Rebecca Grady and her husband, Charles Stokesberry.
She is survived by one son, John Johnston, of Carl Junction, Missouri; three step-children, Sally Stokesberry, of Kansas City, Kansas, Scott Stokesberry (Lou Ann) of Paducah, Kentucky and Sue Stokesberry (Lynda) of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Savanna Parker (Eric) and Christian Triplett, both of Joplin, Matthew Kaster (Jessica), Madeline Kaster and Mary Kaster, all of Kansas City, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Marley Burks, Corbin Parker and Sophie Parker, all of Joplin; and one niece, Katie Grady of St. Louis.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 27, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary, 1502 South Joplin, Joplin, Missouri.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m. at Cantlon Otterness and Viets Funeral Home, 931 West Main Street, Buffalo, Missouri. Burial will follow in Louisburg Cemetery, Louisburg, Missouri under the direction of the funeral home.
