Jackie L. Gordon, 82, Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Jackie was born July 27, 1935 in Sheldon, MO to Clarence A. and Mattie Mae (Stone) Gordon. He married Carolyn Mae Royston on December 23, 1955 in Lamar, MO and she survives of the home.
Jackie was a lifelong resident of Vernon County. From 1953-1955 he served in the United States Army. Jackie was stationed at Ft. Riley and later Camp Carson, CO where was discharged from in 1955. Upon his return to Vernon County he began working at Nevada State Hospital where he worked for 35 years and 3 months until his retirement in 1991. Jackie enjoyed camping, fishing, going on cruises, crafts (turtles), coon hunting, and traveling - he visited all 50 states.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, survivors include three children, Kathy Smith and her husband Leon, Nevada, Kenton Gordon and his wife Terri, Diamond, Kerry Gordon, Nevada; four grandchildren, Eric Smith, Darya Collins, Thad Gordon, Kristi Gordon; four great-grandchildren, Evan Smith, Ethan Smith, Ty Kalleck, Blade Kalleck; one sister, Rosalee Potter, Lamar; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Willis Gordon, Glenn Gordon, Paul Gordon; two sisters, Edna Rice and her husband Howard, Dulcie Rice and her husband Marvin; one brother-in-law, Rollin Potter; and one granddaughter, Amanda Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
