Artie Monroe

Artie Monroe, 64, Carthage, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO after a short illness.

Arthur W. Monroe Jr. was born August 23, 1953 in Carthage; a son of the late Arthur W. Monroe, Sr. and Emma Lou Hart Monroe. He was a graduate of Carthage Senior High School, Class of 1971, living in Carthage his entire life. 

He married Mary Kay Parrish on October 28, 1980 in Miami, OK; she survives. Artie was a transportation and facilities coordinator for the Economic Security Corporation, Joplin, MO for 37 years. Artie loved motorcycles, racing semi-pro motocross on a Monark in the 70’s, rode trials in the 90’s and loved racing vintage motocross. He truly loved his Indian street bike and his Triumph bike. He had motorcycle oil in his blood. Artie was Vice President of the Missouri Chapter 3, Rolling Thunder motorcycle club.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Lindsay L. Monroe, and one son, Lucas A. Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, David O. Monroe.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 19 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
