Elizabeth H. Adams, age 87, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Monday April 16, 2018, at Freeman Hospital, following an illness.
Elizabeth was born on September 9, 1930 in Joplin, the daughter of the late, Ivan Hayden and Frances (Fahe) Hayden. She married Calvin L. Adams on August 27, 1950. They lived in Wichita, Ks. until his military service related death, on October 6, 1966. She moved back to Joplin and worked as an emergency room nurse for Freeman Hospital, retiring in 1998. She volunteered for over twenty years at the Community Clinic. She was very helpful in the set-up and opening of the Clinic. Following her retirement from Freeman Hospital she continued to volunteer in the emergency room. Elizabeth was awarded the Governor’s Volunteer Award for volunteering over 92,000 hours. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she was active in Circles and her Sunday School Class. She enjoyed baking her famous chocolate chip cookies for her family and friends.
She is survived by one son, Brad Adams, Bella Vista, Ar.; her daughter-in-law, Ester Adams, Mercedes, Tx.; and cousins, Bill and Pam Wittkamp, Bunker Hill, Il. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin L. Adams; and one son, Brian D. Adams in October 2011.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Joe Crosthwait will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Lakeview Cemetery in Wichita, Ks.
The family will receive friends at 9:00 a.m. Thursday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to “The Community Clinic” in care of the mortuary.
