Thomas Rufus Duncan, 97 of Lockwood, Missouri passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Truman Health and Rehab, Lamar, Missouri. He was born March 23, 1921 in Dade County, Missouri to William and Effie (Glenn) Duncan.
Tom moved from Lamar, MO. to Sacramento, CA. in the early 1950’s to raise his family and returned back to the Lockwood, Golden city, Lamar area in the late 1970’s. During WWII he served on a merchant ship in the South Pacific area. Tom loved fishing, camping and hunting. He was active in his children’s Cub/Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. He loved being the Boy Scout leader for many years and especially enjoyed the campouts with his troop.
Tom was an active member of his Church in Sacramento where he served on numerous committees as well as worshiping and attending church in Golden City upon his return to Missouri. He was also active with the V.F.W. and the local Lions Club in Golden City. He really enjoyed the company of his fellow Lion members and their canoeing and fishing trips to various locations. The annual all you can eat fish fry at the Golden City park was one of the highlights for him each year and also the semi-annual Duncan/Glenn family reunion.
Survivors include his four children, Gerald and wife Dyana of Chino Valley, AZ., Gregory and wife Marcia of Junction City, KS., Marilyn and husband John of Lincoln, CA., and Glenn and wife Karen of Citrus Heights, CA.. One brother, John Duncan. Nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and ten siblings.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10:00 A.M.. at the MO. Veteran’s Cemetery, Springfield, MO.. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, MO.. Memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s choice.
