Dorothy Maxine Smith, age 95, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at her home with family at her side.
Dorothy was born November 3, 1923 in Catalee, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Harry McGlochien and Jewel Nixon McGlochien. She graduated from Joplin High School, and has worked several jobs in the Joplin area, but her main passion was staying at home taking care of her family. She was the "cool" mom, and all the kids wanted to hang out at her home. She was also very involved with the Freeman Auxiliary, where she had over 2000 hours of volunteer service.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Marvin Smith in 2013; and a brother, Charles McGlochien.
Survivors include her children, Karen Austin and husband Steve, Krista Smith and husband Lloyd all of Joplin, and Kenneth Smith and wife Linda of Haltom City, Texas; granddaughter, Candace Hunt and husband Noel of Tupelo, Mississippi; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Ainsley, and Cameron Hunt.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Danny Mullins officiating.
Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Golden Paw Pet Rescue care of Parker Mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
