Phyllis Ann Currey (Hoffman) lost her race against Parkinson’s on August 15, 2019 at the age of 73. Phyllis was born August 22, 1945 to the late Harry Hoffman and Vera Barrett Hoffman. Phyllis was known for her humorous demeanor, her passion for racing, and love for her family and friends.
Phyllis lived in Joplin, Missouri for most of her life. She loved having her grandchildren over, visiting with her family, and playing card games.
Phyllis worked at Ramada Inn for 19 years for Mr. Andrew Michalopoulos and his family. She also worked at Dixie Printing for a numerous amount of years.
In 1993, Phyllis Currey drove her first race car at the Joplin Speedway in the Powder Puff race. Her racing career only lasted until 1995, but she continued her passion by watching her brother, Ronald, race and by playing Grand Theft Auto with her grandson, Alex.
Phyllis loved staying at Spring River Christian Village. The residents and staff loved her sense of humor as she brought a light to those around her. Phyllis wrote a book about her life with her granddaughter, Jasmine, while staying at Spring River. She was so thankful to those who helped her accomplish this.
Phyllis Currey is survived by her sister, Sandy Mock (Lanny) of Carl Junction; brother, Ronald Hoffman of Joplin; sons, Christopher & Brian Currey; grandchildren, Jasmine, Gavin, Derrick, Alex, Madison, & Brookelyn.
