Erma Ruth Shoemaker Rose, age 81, went on her journey with the Lord on August 25, 2019 in Carthage, Missouri. Erma Ruth Shoemaker was born March 20, 1938 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Joe Shoemaker and Edna Ella (Elmquist) Shoemaker. She was a 1956 graduate of Wheaton High School, Wheaton, Missouri.
Erma married Richard Wayne Rose on December 21, 1956 in Independence, Missouri; he preceded her in death on December 11, 2013. Erma worked at Havens Steel in Kansas City, Missouri from 1960-1967. She then graduated from the Jenny Lund School of Nursing in 1977, and upon graduation, she worked at the Truman Medical Center in Kansas City from 1977-1983. Erma then moved to Neosho, Missouri in 1984, where she worked at Sale Memorial Hospital from 1984-1987. She then worked for Dr. Marvin Singleton at Freeman Hospital from 1987-1988. Erma opened Rose's Family Restaurant in Neosho in 1988 and worked until she retired in 2000. She was a member of Life Church in Carthage.
Survivors include one son, Danny Reed Rose; a foster son, Jerry Halley; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Deborah Lynn Rose; a foster daughter, Connie Bracken; eight sisters, Bertha McNutt, Rema Maxwell, Edna Hughes, Francis Parthenia Shoemaker, Emma Jo Privett, Velma Garrison, Violet Stockton and Ella Mae Shoemaker; and one granddaughter, Desiree Rose.
Visitation will be held 9-10 am, Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will follow at 10 am. Interment will follow the service at Muncie Chapel Cemetery, Wheaton, Missouri. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
